How the checklist was developed

The checklist for gender equality in tech has been developed by a working group within TechSverige's IT Competence Council. As a basis, the working group, in addition to their own experience of gender equality work within their companies, has used a number of surveys and studies in the field and also consulted with experts.

The list has been developed using a High Performance Learning Journey model, designed to ensure that the development work of organizations actually contributes to business objectives. The main common business objective of the tech companies identified in this work is: Increased access to relevant skills (see "Business objectives" in the model above). To achieve the Business objectives, three outcomes have been defined that are critical to success:

  • Retention: Increased retention of women
  • Develop: Increasing the share of women in technology-related leadership roles
  • Attract: Increased number of female applicants for tech jobs.

The term "technology leadership roles" includes managerial roles, technical expert roles and other business-critical roles in tech.

Based on the impacts, a number of "Lessons learned situations", or best practices, have been identified. These are concrete descriptions of how different roles (CEO, senior manager, etc.) should act to ensure that the impacts are achieved.

The project manager for the development of the guide has been Fredrik von Essen, consultant at EssenLearn AB.
