To be or not to be in Visby during Almedalen Week?

The question is asked every year, but having just returned from the island, we can say that the rumor of the politicians' week's death is exaggerated to say the least. The fact that Almedalen Week is unusual in many ways, and that content, visitors and form have changed since its inception, is of course open to debate. But there is no doubt that Almedalen is still a unique arena for discussions and meetings - not least between business and politics. For us as an industry organization, the presence has been extremely valuable.

We are very pleased to have arranged a sunny mingle with state secretaries and other bigwigs as dancing DJs, and a seminar where, with the help of the Minister for Digitization as a moderator, we had an unusually lively and concrete conversation about what digitization is really about. Their genuine presence and commitment is for us a confirmation that we are right and visible in the conversation. But most valuable for us is what happened in between.

We have met - and facilitated meetings between - ministers and government officials, commanders-in-chief and small business owners, the established CEOs of large companies and the young and hungry, the enthusiastic and the skeptical. In panels, over dinners, breakfasts and lunches, at mingles and in the streets and squares, we have talked about the digitization of Sweden, health and social care, about copyright and data storage, about broadband expansion and competition, about leadership and conditions for entrepreneurship, about procurement and security. About war and peace.

We have taken home with us so much more than we came there with. Each of us who were there now has a long list of both expected and unexpected contacts to continue the dialog with after the summer, and of very concrete new and continued collaborations and issues to work on.

Now many of us - and you - are going on vacation, but we promise to come back with a vengeance in the fall. Until then, have a great summer!
