Detailed statistics

Definition of the industry - SNI codes
The Swedish Standard Industrial Classification, SNI, is a statistical standard used to classify, among other things, companies' activities and workplaces according to their economic activities. The statistics on this website are based on data from Statistics Sweden (SCB). The tech industry is based on a selection of SNI codes 26, 42, 46, 58, 61, 62, 63, 82 and 95 at the five-digit level.
In simple terms, the tech industry can be divided into four sub-sectors: software and IT services, telecommunications and infrastructure, hardware manufacturing, and retail and services. Software and IT services is a broad sub-sector with products and services that include all software, computer programs and digital solutions.
The telecommunications and infrastructure sub-sector includes the physical infrastructure and the services that support it (electronic communications services and electronic communications networks). Hardware manufacturing, in turn, accounts for the production of computers, network equipment, mobile telecommunications equipment and other components. The fourth sub-sector, resale and servicing, includes services for servicing hardware and software products as well as the actual sales functions to private consumers and businesses.
The above sub-sectors make up the IT and telecom-heavy part of the tech industry. In addition to these sub-sectors, tech companies are found in many other industries. The exact size of the industry is therefore probably underestimated.
