New report: Healthtech plays a key role in current and future health and care

TechSverige today launches a new report that shows that Sweden has unique opportunities to take a leading position in healthtech - digital healthcare solutions, AI and data-driven care that can strengthen both people's health, the quality of care and the long-term sustainability of society.

As healthcare needs increase due to an ageing population, more chronic diseases and staff shortages, it is becoming increasingly clear that technology is not just a support, but a necessity. Through the smart use of health data and digital solutions, we can strengthen our health, advance research, free up time, reduce administration, and create more person-centered and accessible health care.

 - Healthtech is not just a given ingredient of the future - it is here and now. To meet the needs of the individual and to take advantage of the full potential of technology, we must act collectively and purposefully," says Peter Kjäll, industry policy expert at TechSverige.

The report is based on interviews with regions, municipalities, private healthcare providers, suppliers and entrepreneurs at the forefront, as well as international examples. It presents actions in 10 areas - with proposals to make health data more accessible, promote the use of healthtech solutions and strengthen digital infrastructure, skills and competitiveness.

Studies highlighted in the report show that AI-based fall prevention can reduce falls by up to 80%, self-monitoring can halve hospital visits, and digital triage has reduced unnecessary primary care visits by up to 30%.

We have much to gain, both as individuals and as a country, from increasing the use and benefits of healthtech solutions.

- "We have a lot to gain, both as individuals and as a country, by increasing the use and benefits of healthtech solutions. It is about strengthening our opportunities for better health and future-proofing sustainable and humane health and social care," says Åsa Zetterberg, CEO of TechSverige.

TechSverige now calls on decision-makers, public actors, suppliers and entrepreneurs - and not least individuals - to join forces to make healthtech a natural and integral part of efforts to improve health and Swedish welfare. There are also great opportunities for Sweden to take a position and market share in the increasingly growing global market for digital health and healthtech.
