The state's broadband infrastructure as a resource, SOU 2016:1
IT&Telekomföretagen has submitted a consultation response to the report "Statens bredbandsinfrastruktur som resurs".
IT&Telekomföretagen welcomes the government's initiative to investigate how the state infrastructure can be used more efficiently. The state is a large and important owner of broadband infrastructure and an important provider of long-distance connections to market players. It is essential that this need is secured in the long term and does not risk being given lower priority in the various organizations.
At the same time, it is important that public efforts in the broadband area focus on building infrastructure where the market lacks commercial conditions, stimulate market investment and the construction of digital infrastructure, and create the conditions for market investment to go as far as possible.

The inquiry into more efficient use of the state's broadband infrastructure has been tasked with reviewing the possibilities of improving the efficiency of the use of the state-owned broadband networks through improved coordination between the Swedish Transport Administration, the Swedish National Grid, Vattenfall AB and Teracom AB. In addition to reduced costs and increased security and robustness in the networks, collaboration can also lead to the expansion of broadband being facilitated. By helping to ensure that more people have access to fast broadband (at least 100 Mbit/s), the opportunities of digitization will reach more and more people, thereby creating additional social benefits.
