Debate: This year's spring bill has no IT component

In this year's Spring Bill, as last year, there is no reference to IT, information technology, electronic communications, broadband or other concepts relating to what is perhaps the most important factor in making Sweden competitive in the long term.

Our competitor countries, such as Finland, France and the UK, have action plans (as noted by PTS in several reports); research clearly shows that investments in IT and electronic communications lead to increased employment and growth; societal challenges such as the climate issue or demographic trends will require investments in IT use. The government has nothing to say about this. Perhaps this is not surprising - the Alliance government has shown surprising passivity on IT issues. But for Sweden as an IT nation, it is ominous!
