Are IT&Telecom companies really home to the tech companies of the future?

Universum today published Framtidsföretagen Teknik, where engineering and computer science/IT students were asked to rank the companies they are most attracted to. How do the companies in our membership rank? Both good and bad. Among the "Top 30 civil engineers", four companies are in the top ten, with Google at the top. But in the 'Top 30 University Engineers', only two are in the top ten, Google (2nd) and Sony Ericsson (10th). And most surprisingly, more than half of the companies on the top list for computer/IT students are not IT companies.

A scan of the lists shows that some of the really big players are completely absent, mainly on the telecom side. Sure, many of the companies get visibility because they are consumer companies (H&M, IKEA, etc.), but is this a relevant excuse for IT companies not to be visible? Shouldn't college students be better informed than just being dazzled by the consumer brand?

However, congratulations to Epsilon, Qbranch and Softronic for being listed on the "Rocket" list. They have obviously made it. Teliasonera is also there, so it's not all doom and gloom for telecom companies...
