Digital services that lift Sweden

Digitization and servitization are two of the strongest structural change trends. One group of companies that captures the essence of both are the digital service companies. IT&Telecom companies have listed 21 actions in five areas that would strengthen their competitiveness.

Doing what we have done before in new ways is the main driver of growth. It frees up resources. We can run established businesses more efficiently. And create new, more productive activities. From this follows the transition from industrial, goods-producing market logic to service logic. The same logic can be applied to technology development in general. And perhaps even more specifically to digitalization.

In combination, servitization and digitalization are something of the structural transformation equivalent of a perfect storm. In particular, radically reduced costs for innovation and market entry create opportunities for many more people to contribute to increased growth and socio-economic development.

At the same time, structural change means increased competition for Swedish companies. A digital service can just as easily be delivered from Sri Lanka as Sweden. This makes demands. We must make use of our advantages and safeguard our areas of strength. Not least, we need to learn to understand and support the companies that develop and deliver digital services.

These companies, large and small, have the ability to streamline, develop new products and deliver to an international market from an early stage. To highlight the needs of digital service companies, IT&Telecomföretagen has produced this report. Our hope is that the content will benefit our political decision-makers for a more contemporary industrial policy.
