From fiber welding in a trench to meeting the minister
After nine months at IT&Telecom, I've realized that in my job there is no such thing as an "ordinary week" - in fact, not even an "ordinary day". And that is one of the great joys.
The Wednesday before last, I was in Brussels at a seminar on broadband expansion organized by SKL and Stokab. Once there, I took the opportunity to meet one of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise's local representatives who, among other things, monitors our issues at EU level.
The next day I flew in the opposite direction, up to Luleå to learn about the conditions for digitalization in that region. Ingrid Engelmark-Högström at Eltel Networks had put together a fantastic study visit schedule where I got to meet knowledgeable network projectors, an enthusiastic village team, and not least a fiber technician welding in a tent in a ditch who tried to teach me everything about node cabinets, color marking of ducting and how to blow and weld fiber. Before returning to Stockholm on Friday, to attend an information meeting at PTS on current policy issues and legislation from the EU, I had time to meet the city network Lunet and IT-Norrbotten.
At the beginning of the following week, it was time for the Internet Days - an opportunity for many meetings with many interesting people and good discussions about what digitalization means for our entire society. In connection with this, I also had the opportunity to meet our new minister responsible for IT issues, Mehmet Kaplan. We also had the opportunity to talk a little more with each other the next day, when Telenor presented its Nordic Broadband City Index report and I participated as an industry representative in the panel discussion about the report.
In summary, as I said, it's not an ordinary week at work, but that's not what I'm aiming for either. On the contrary, I think I have one of the most fun jobs in the industry!
The more people in the industry I meet and the more I have the chance to learn from them, the more fun I have. And the better I can deliver member benefits. Two things that are exactly what I strive for!
