Listen to the Digitization Commission, Peter Eriksson!

- The government's digitalisation policy must make a clear impact and difference in people's lives. Several studies have concluded that the organization of digitalization policy is fragmented and insufficient. A digitization authority is needed to ensure that political priorities have an impact so that the work for a digitized society can be more strategic and effective. Developing digitalisation work is crucial as we modernize Swedish society," says Minister for Digitalization Peter Eriksson.

- In order for the government to ensure that digitization policy priorities have an impact on the governance of authorities and operations, a permanent structure is required at the national level. The work of the Swedish Digitization Agency must be based on the overall political goal for digitization that Sweden should be the best in the world at using the opportunities of digitization and the Government's sub-goals linked to this, concludes Peter Eriksson.

This is instead the government's justification for why it has now chosen to establish an Equality Authority, located in Gothenburg. Good for them! Gender equality issues are certainly worth prioritizing, and an authority with an overarching and collective responsibility can certainly speed up the work for a more equal Sweden. But digitization issues should also be handled in the same way. I've said it before and I'll say it again; if we are to achieve the goals of a world-class public administration and for Sweden to be the best in the world at taking advantage of the opportunities of digitization, clear overall and joint governance and coordination are required.

The fact that the Digitalization Commission today proposes that an authority responsible for promoting digitalization should be established is gratifying on so many levels. Now we just eagerly await the government's press release...
