Four points for more digital skills: could the list be better?

I was asked, on the spur of the moment, what is really needed for Sweden to regain the lead in digital skills. Here's my fresh list: four concrete and actually quite urgent action points in the areas of public leadership, higher education, schools and foreign-born skills. Anything missing?

  • Implement a comprehensive digital skills upgrade for all decision-makers and other leaders in the public sector, on the conditions for and consequences of digitization.
  • Fully digitize schools: Implement the national strategy for digitalization developed by the National Agency for Education, including: Programming on the schedule, a digital knowledge boost among school staff and school leaders, digitally based teaching methods as a natural part of teacher training, and change work linked to digital methods as an equally natural part of headmaster training.
  • Lifelong learning: Changes in, for example, the length of higher education courses, the effectiveness of teaching and the possibility of spreading higher education over a lifetime need to be investigated.
  • Attracting and harnessing foreign-born (digital) skills: Labour immigration legislation needs to be urgently reviewed to promote the supply of talent to industries and sectors with labour shortages.
