Mikael Eklund - welcome to IT&Telecom companies

Since January 15 this year, Mikael Eklund has been working as an industrial policy expert at IT&Telecomföretagen. He is deputizing for Pär Nygårds who is on parental leave.

What are you working on at IT&Telecomföretagen?
- My title is Industry Policy Expert and one of my main tasks is to work towards the Data Council. Issues I monitor include copyright, data protection, net neutrality, data-driven innovation and information security. Security issues in particular are high on the agenda right now.

Mikael Eklund has extensive experience and interest in issues related to data-driven innovation and digital societal development. And he has long been involved in the work of IT&Telecom companies. Among other things, as chairman of the then Open Data Council.
- "It was an exciting time. We worked a lot on the issue of information accessibility and open data, but when the revised PSI Act came into place, we had to take a new approach. Broaden or close down. We chose to broaden and thus laid the foundation for the current Data Council," says Mikael.

What are you looking forward to most about working as an industrial policy expert?
- Above all, the scope of the work. Data issues have an incredible breadth, something that probably suits me as a consultant and my company Eklund & Eklund konsult AB is a member of IT&Telekomföretagen. But the main issue right now is data security, to get a definition of the issue, but also linked to long-term confidence in the industry, primarily in the public sector.

What do you do in your spare time?
- Archipelago life. The family has a house on Ljusterö and I try to spend as much time there as I can. It's lovely in Roslagen all year round, not just in the summer!
