Challenges and opportunities of the platform economy
What are the challenges and opportunities of the EU digital single market? And what does the platform economy mean?
Different perspectives on the issues were presented when the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, together with the Swedish Trade Federation, IT&Telecom companies, Visita and Teknikföretagens, held a seminar on the issues on May 17.
One of the speakers who shared his perspectives was Jonas Vig from MinDoktor - one of the member companies of IT&Telecom. He spoke about the company's platform and about the differences and challenges in the EU for operating their types of services. In addition, Jonas Andersson Schwartz, from the think tank Fores, spoke about what a platform really is and what the platform economy means.
One of the conclusions was that a simpler regulatory framework and directive would benefit the single market and digital operators, but that the issue is not simple.
Lars Lundberg, an expert on industrial policy at the Swedish IT & Telecommunications Association, said that the legislation is restrictive.
- "It should really be there to create a good internal market. After all, it is market forces that create development, not regulations.
He also said that the lack of skills in Brussels is worrying.
- "This is a key issue. Politicians and officials must have the right skills, but unfortunately this is not the case today. There is room for improvement here.
