Competitiveness depends entirely on skilled migration
There will be a shortage of 70,000 IT experts by 2022, so it should not take seven months to arrange a work permit for an international talent, write Åsa Zetterberg, Director of IT&Telekomföretagen, Stefan Koskinen, Head of Employer Policy, Almega, and Magnus Höij, Director of Innovation Sweden, in a joint debate article in Ny Teknik.
It is a fact that Swedish companies find it difficult to recruit, hire and retain foreign talent. When it can take up to seven months for the Swedish Migration Agency to process a work permit for recruitment from outside the EU and EEA, it becomes impossible for Swedish companies to compete for the best international talent. This is happening at a time when many parts of the service sector are crying out for skilled employees.
