Government sets up a national cybersecurity center
Sweden's security, competitiveness and prosperity rest to a large extent on digital foundations. Cyber threats to Sweden and Swedish interests are extensive. With technological development and digitization, threats and vulnerabilities are increasing, which means that security needs to be strengthened.
The National Cyber Security Center will contribute to making Sweden safer by increasing the overall ability to respond to cyber threats and effectively support both public and private actors. This will help to strengthen the security of society as a whole.
- "The establishment of the Cyber Security Center is an important step towards improving our overall ability to protect Sweden and Swedish interests and reduce vulnerabilities. The Government will work closely with the relevant authorities on the continued work," says Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist.
Overall, the government estimates an investment of SEK 440 million in the cybersecurity center up to and including 2025.
- By bringing together Sweden's expertise in the field, the National Cyber Security Center will make Sweden safer and strengthen the security of Swedish interests. This is crucial for us to be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization," says Minister for the Interior Mikael Damberg.
Under the Cybersecurity Center, the authorities shall
- Coordinate the prevention, detection and response to cyber-attacks and other cyber-incidents.
- Provide advice and support on threats, vulnerabilities and risks.
- Provide a national platform for collaboration and information exchange with private and public actors in the field of cybersecurity.
The authorities' cooperation within the framework of the Cyber Security Center will be developed gradually in 2021-2023 in several areas. In 2023, the Government intends to take a position on how the Cyber Security Center's activities should continue to be focused and conducted after 2023.
The funding is based on an agreement between the governing parties, the Center Party and the Liberals.
