"Processing times for work permits are skyrocketing"
The authors of the article want to see the new government and the Swedish Migration Agency focus on making Sweden one of the world's most attractive countries for global talent, and believe that the conditions are in place, although much work will be required.
"We assume that the new government wants to secure Sweden's competitiveness and ability to generate new Swedish jobs, and skills supply should be high on the to-do list.
As an urgent measure, it is proposed, among other things, to re-examine the new practice of the Swedish Migration Agency whereby workers on probation are only granted work permits for six months. In addition, the Migration Agency's application process needs to become 100 percent digital and accept digital signing even for powers of attorney. Another proposal is to create a talent express for companies in industries that have a spotless history:
"The talent express should consist of specialized officers with a high level of trust in companies and a focus on supporting them through the permitting process to further reduce processing times."
