Simplified passport control process
According to new information from the Swedish Migration Agency, visa-free workers can now have their passports checked without visiting the Swedish embassy.
At the end of May, the Finnish Immigration Service will launch a pilot for digital passport control. The new e-service will simplify the application process for students and workers from 23 visa-free countries and territories.
Within a few days of the online application for a work permit, the Finnish Immigration Service will send an offer of digital passport control to people who fit the pilot. The person applying for a work permit then has sevendays to download an app to scan their passport and share their digital passport details with the Migration Agency. The short response time is important in order not to delay the processing.
The offer of digital passport control is sent to the person who made the application, but only the employee and their co-applicant family members can share their passport data with the Finnish Immigration Service. If you are an agent authorized to represent the employer and the employee throughout the application process, you must forward the email with the offer as soon as possible. The control number of the application to which the offer relates is clearly stated in the email.
