"It should not be technology for technology's sake"

Sara Hedman is a designer at the service and software company TietoEvry in Skellefteå, Sweden, who wants to work with innovations to simplify people's everyday lives.

One of Sara's projects is about creating a new way of timekeeping for people with disabilities in daily activities. Sara and her team developed a new solution consisting of 'smart signs'. A digital signal is sent when the user pulls the door sideways, allowing the arrival and departure to be automatically registered in the system.

"It shouldn't be technology for technology's sake.
We should always start from how we can best benefit users."

- We started entirely from the users, in this case people in daily activities. What are their needs? How should the system be designed to work as smoothly as possible for them? says Sara Hedman.

When you think of IT or digital products, you usually picture a screen. But Sara Hedman believes that you should not always lock your thoughts to a screen when developing new digital solutions.

Sara usually works in teams where she, as a designer, collaborates with colleagues with several different skills. Both programmers and someone who focuses on the company's business are needed for the whole to be as good as possible.

- Otherwise, a designer might go off and come up with something that no one wants to pay for," says Sara Hedman.
