"The tech industry has the solutions to the climate challenge"
- "I can't think of a more important industry than the tech industry for those who want to work with sustainability and change the world," says Helena Nordin, Head of Sustainability at tech company Advania.
Helena is originally a civil engineer but got involved in environmental and sustainability issues early in her career. She has been hooked ever since.
The tech industry holds many of the solutions to the climate challenge, says Helena Nordin. These include digital platforms for sharing products and services or AI solutions for smarter building management. At the same time, the industry is also part of the problem of high consumption of energy and, for example, minerals in the manufacture of hardware.
- For us in the tech industry, it's very much about helping our customers to repair their products more, rather than buying new ones all the time.
Helena is not really interested in technology as her primary driving force. She sees the job as a platform for driving environmental and sustainability issues, and having a technical education is a great advantage.
- "There's so much you can do in this industry that doesn't involve sitting around 'cracking code' all day. We need to get more people to understand this, not least women," says Helena Nordin.
