The mission: Recruit shortage skills again and again
How to find tomorrow's experts to solve the most complex problems for business and the public sector? This question is highly relevant to Veronica Wiren, Vice President HR for Scandinavia and Central Europe at IT and consulting firm CGI. To reach the right candidates in today's fast-changing world, she harnesses the power of the company's employees who act as ambassadors through their own experiences.
- Competition for staff is fierce among IT companies, even in the current economy. While customer demands are increasing and all the changes in the business environment are directly reflected in demand, for example, the demand for skills in areas such as AI and security has skyrocketed.
Add to that the fact that most companies today can be described to some extent as IT companies. So the industry as such offers fantastic career opportunities.
However, the image of jobs in IT needs to be nuanced, today we hire experts in a variety of areas such as health, manufacturing, defense and public services where IT skills are only part of the profile.
Today, everything is interconnected - technology, finance, law and industry - everything is connected. Both specialized skills and a general understanding of society are needed to solve today's challenges.
"We simply need to bring more people into the industry, with different backgrounds, and offer good career development, otherwise we won't be able to meet the long-term staffing needs," says Veronica Wiren.
"Part of the solution is to attract people who have basic skills and want to develop further in IT or Tech and offer development opportunities on site"-Veronica Wiren
In parallel with this, we must be an attractive employer that really takes care of our staff. CGI invests heavily in skills development and job rotation for all employees. We have a fantastic training offering with over 40,000 online resources and 700 learning channels through the CGI Academia e-learning platform. We are proud to be the most equal employer in the industry with high health rates for both women and men.
These are important components, but we also need to offer exciting career paths and with our global profile and large customer portfolio, there are no limits to how far you can go within the company, both geographically and in terms of expertise.

Veronica is basically a human resources scientist who worked both in banking and in the public sector before she ended up in the tech industry 15 years ago. Here she thrives.
- This is the most fun job there is! To be part of the rapid development and change that is taking place, where the demands on what we have to deliver are constantly increasing, is incredibly inspiring," says Veronica Wiren.
