"Dare to take the step to tech"

What would have happened if the pandemic had hit us 20 years ago? Would it have been possible to switch to homeworking on a large scale before we had a well-developed IT infrastructure? This is a question that Staffan Hellsvik, Partner Manager at Ericsson, has given a lot of thought to.

- Roads, electricity grids and water pipes are infrastructure that you can touch. But then there is wireless communication, which is just as important, but not visible. In a short time, we have become dependent on connectivity everywhere," says Staffan Hellsvik.

Helping companies and industries build out their IT infrastructure is a big part of Staffan Hellsvik's mission at Ericsson. The next big technology leap for many industries is the transition from WiFi to their own 5G networks.

- When people got their first wireless networks at home, they didn't think about connecting their apartments with smart speakers and sensors in the future. Similarly, today we don't know what technological innovations will be possible when we move to 5G," says Staffan Hellsvik.

Staffan describes his job as "super exciting". You get to meet a lot of people and visit companies in different industries. Now that the pandemic is over, he looks forward to meeting customers and partners face-to-face again.

Staffan Hellsvik's message to anyone thinking of entering the tech industry is to take the plunge.
"I've met many people of different ages who have made the switch to tech. None of those I have met have regretted their choice, even if it took some courage to take the step," Staffan concludes.
