From the country lagom to a competitive Sweden with growth and concrete results
On Thursday, December 12, Minister for Education Johan Pehrson, Minister for Energy and Business Ebba Busch and Minister for EU Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz presented the government's research and innovation bill. TechSverige welcomes the government's initiatives, where TechSverige and its member companies' work has had a major impact.
The government emphasizes that Sweden will no longer be the country of lagom, we will compete with the best in the world when it comes to technology development. This is a message and an ambition that we in the tech industry welcome, combined with increased funding [of 1.5 billion in 2025]. A focus on excellence, internationalization and innovation is crucial to get there, and we are positive about the great impact our industry has had in the government's efforts.
- "It goes without saying that investments in research need to be matched with the utilization of research results and commercialization. It is positive that the government is even more clearly emphasizing that research should lead to more innovations, provide more jobs and secure our welfare with concrete results and strengthened competitiveness," says Åsa Zetterberg, Director of TechSverige.
Identifying priorities and daring to choose is in itself an important step. TechSverige is therefore very pleased that the government is prioritizing excellence and groundbreaking technologies such as AI, quantum technology and advanced digitization. Both through special initiatives through Vinnova's designated strategic technology areas for Sweden and centers of excellence through the Swedish Research Council. In addition, a strengthening of the advanced digitization program.
- All these areas fit well with the tech industry's priorities and our concrete input and dialog with the government, parliament and ministries. Sweden has a very research and technology-intensive industry that competes in a global market. Therefore, high-quality research in technology areas is central," says Åsa Zetterberg.
TechSverige also welcomes the fact that the Government intends to draw up a national action plan to increase Swedish participation in the EU's framework programs for research and innovation. It is absolutely essential that the Swedish research funding bodies act in a coordinated and strategic manner in implementing the programs.
