New Nordic cooperation for digital resilience

At a time of increased security challenges and a deteriorating security situation, the Nordic countries are joining forces to strengthen digital resilience. The Joint Nordic Initiative for Digital Resilience is now being launched, a collaboration between the four leading Nordic industry organizations in the tech sector, with TechSverige as one of the driving forces.

For the first time in over 500 years, the Nordic countries are part of the same defense alliance - NATO, while cooperation within the EU is deepening in the field of defense and security. This creates new opportunities for cooperation on security and digital resilience.

The Nordic tech sector has a crucial role to play in strengthening total defense and societal resilience.

- "The Nordic tech sector has a crucial role to play in strengthening total defense and societal resilience. Through this initiative, we are taking joint responsibility for creating better conditions for security and resilience in the Nordic region," says Åsa Zetterberg, CEO of TechSverige.

The tech industry in the Nordic region is already a world leader in several technological areas and has strong cross-border links in terms of ownership, infrastructure and operations. Governments are increasingly turning to the tech sector as partners, customers and regulators in security and defense matters.

The initiative aims to

  • strengthen the conditions for cross-border cooperation in the tech sector, including through harmonized rules, common security practices and better conditions for investment in robust digital infrastructure
  • promote the coordinated application of EU and national safety rules and the development of common infrastructure solutions
  • deepen cooperation on cybersecurity and facilitate rapid and effective responses to digital attacks.

To ensure a long-term impact, the work will be followed up through joint working groups, an annual security forum and strengthened dialogue with authorities, defense forces and international actors. The aim is to create structures for concrete collaboration and continuous development of strategies and initiatives for digital security and total defense in the Nordic region.

- Advanced technologies, electronic communications and digital solutions are central to both civil and military defense. We look forward to working together to strengthen the Nordic region as a role model in digital security and resilience. This initiative is also an invitation to the Nordic governments to stand united with the tech sector in this work," says Åsa Zetterberg.
