What's decided, what's at risk and how is the EU reacting? The last few weeks have seen dramatic developments in the context of the new US trade policy.

On April 2, President Trump imposed high US tariffs on the entire world. Tariffs had already been imposed on steel, aluminum and motor vehicles, but now the tariffs were extended to almost all goods. A new tariff level of 10% came into force against almost all countries this weekend. Against the EU, the tariffs will be even higher, at 20%.

The rapidity and unpredictability of events creates unforeseeable problems and there is also a high risk of the conflict broadening and deepening in various ways.

At the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, we have been working on trade issues for a long time and we have a close dialog on US tariffs with actors both in Sweden and Brussels. We are in close contact with BusinessEurope, the Swedish government, relevant authorities and the European Commission on trade policy issues.

The broadcast will focus on:

  • What has happened and why has it happened?
  • What tariffs apply now?
  • The impact on Swedish companies
  • How is the world, including the EU, reacting?
  • What could happen in the future?
  • What should be done in this situation?
