Illness in itself does not constitute valid grounds for dismissal. At the same time, long-term or permanent incapacity for work, after rehabilitation and redeployment measures have been implemented, may in some cases constitute valid grounds for dismissal. Determining when this limit has been reached is one of the complex issues of labor law for employers.

In this webinar, you will receive a structured and practical overview of how termination due to illness is handled under Swedish labor law. Among other things, we will go through the employer's rehabilitation and adaptation responsibilities, as well as the far-reaching obligation to redeploy employees. The focus is on how you can ensure, step by step, that the right conditions are in place before considering termination, and how you can avoid common mistakes that can lead to invalidation or damages.

Aims and objectives of the course

The purpose of the webinar is to give you greater confidence in handling long-term sick leave in a correct, structured, and legally secure manner. The course provides you with knowledge about the limits of an employer's responsibility and when dismissal due to illness can be legally justifiable.

After the course you will be able to:

  • Be aware of the employer's responsibility for rehabilitation, adaptation, and work trials
  • Meet the requirements for redeployment investigations and redeployment offers
  • Assessing when the relocation obligation has been fulfilled
  • Understand what a decision on sickness compensation means for you as an employer
  • Carry out the termination process in a correct and legally secure manner
  • Avoiding common pitfalls when terminating employment for personal reasons

Target group

The course is aimed at those who are new to labor law and who are CEOs, HR specialists, managers, or supervisors with personnel responsibility, or who otherwise come into contact with labor law issues in their daily work.
