Tech industry - key player in sustainable development
Sustainability is one of the greatest challenges of our time, reshaping the conditions for society, business and private life. How well we meet the challenge today will affect not only the development of the near future, but also the quality of life and conditions of future generations.
The digital and green transitions are linked and interdependent. A world-leading tech industry that takes responsibility for sustainable development is a crucial key, not only for Sweden's green transition, but for the world's. The tech industry in Sweden should be a pioneer and key player in the global transition.
With this report, we want to show the great opportunities that digitalization offers for our ability to transition to a more sustainable society.
In the report, we highlight the opportunities of tech by highlighting some examples of existing technologies that can help Sweden and Europe's most carbon-intensive sectors reduce their emissions.
But this is also a report where we highlight the sustainability challenges that the tech industry itself needs to work on and take responsibility for.
Sustainable tech - The work and challenges of the tech industry
TechSverige has mapped the industry's main sustainability challenges in the climate, environmental and social areas. As part of the work on the report, six member companies with a strong commitment to sustainability were interviewed and a survey of TechSverige's member companies was conducted.
The picture is clear: the industry faces several sustainability challenges, but there is a strong drive to address these and help make the tech industry more sustainable itself and can help other industries and society as a whole to become more sustainable.
Tech for the climate
The tech industry is contributing solutions that reduce emissions from business and the public sector. This report describes seven examples where Telia, Atea, Ericsson, TietoEVRY, Prototyp, Microsoft and Sweco, together with partners in the private and public sectors, have developed solutions that reduce emissions in food production, manufacturing, public sector and energy consumption, construction, real estate and transportation.
