Increased number of cyber attacks in 2022

Globally, the number of cyber attacks in 2022 increased by 38% compared to the previous year. In Sweden, the increase was smaller, 8%. One explanation for the increase is an increased number of small hacker groups that have focused on tools for remote work and distance learning. The Swedish crime reports probably conceal a very large number of unreported cases. In 2022, government and military targets were the most vulnerable in Sweden, with an average of 1 440 attacks per business per week.

The Swedish government recently presented a new division of responsibilities in the field of cybersecurity, along with several commendable initiatives to strengthen protection against cyberattacks. However, more will be needed. In the report Tech industry proposals to meet cyber threats, TechSverige develops the proposals on information and cyber security that we launched in 2022 in A tech agenda for Sweden.
