IT&Telecom companies have been invited to comment on the European Commission's proposal for a Regulation on a market information tool, which aims to help the Commission request necessary information directly from companies in cases where the internal market is not functioning properly, either due to individual infringements by companies or due to so-called market failures.

On May 2, 2017, the Commission presented a package of measures to strengthen the enforcement and functioning of the Single Market. Part of this package, which consists of three parts, is a proposal for a regulation to introduce the Single Market Information Tool (SMIT), a market information tool with the aim of enabling the Commission to request information directly from businesses in the single market.
