The present and future of AI and its means
Two reports from TechSverige shed light on the development of AI in Sweden and identify necessary measures to strengthen the country's competitiveness. The reports present a strategic way forward to future-proof Sweden's position in AI.
The first AI Present and Future report summarizes insights from roundtable discussions with leading AI experts who have discussed Sweden's strategic position in AI development, the use of AI and the ecosystem around AI. The report highlights key issues and shows a consensus on several opportunities and challenges for Sweden in AI:
- Sweden has several strategic advantages in the AI economy, such as high-quality data, the ability to create local and specialized AI applications, tech entrepreneurship, and adaptability. There is a need for a unified leadership to drive and coordinate the AI work both within organizations and from the government," says Peter Kjäll, industry policy expert at TechSverige.
There is a lot happening around AI globally and Sweden is unfortunately lagging behind. In the Global AI Index, which compares 62 countries' investments, innovation and adoption of AI, Sweden ranks 17th.
- Sweden is losing momentum in the global AI race. But we have great potential to strengthen our position. In our reports, we propose measures that we want the government and the AI Commission, among others, to take a closer look at," says Peter Kjäll.
In the report, TechSverige proposes measures in eight areas, including the need for skills, computing power and data, as well as better conditions for business and the public sector to take advantage of AI.
- AI developments create opportunities and challenges for Swedish competitiveness. AI can mean that traditional industrial advantages, such as advanced manufacturing and highly skilled labor, can be undermined by automation and innovative AI solutions. If Swedish companies manage to integrate AI successfully, it could lead to renewed competitiveness and new opportunities in the international arena. AI can become a driver for entrepreneurship, new companies, new applications and services that strengthen our competitiveness," says Åsa Zetterberg, Director of TechSverige.
