Stockholm region - world leader in IT

Stockholm is Sweden's largest growth region and has all the prerequisites to be a world leader and engine of digital development. These were the words of industry representatives from leading information and communication technology (ICT) companies at a panel debate organized by the City of Stockholm on 7 June together with IT&Telekomföretagen, Kista Science City and Stockholm IT Region.

There was a strong consensus among the panel that primary and secondary education play a crucial role in creating innovation and growth. The region's stakeholders also highlight the importance of creative and innovative clusters and environments, collaboration between small and large companies, the importance of basic education for long-term skills supply and the responsibility of public authorities to provide open data.

IT promotes growth

The industry itself emphasizes that IT should not be seen as a niche, but should be used in all industries to promote growth. The panel also expressed a strong desire that politicians should be better at opening up dialogue with the ICT industry.

Participants agreed that the public sector can contribute by creating arenas for clusters and innovative dialog, not least for young entrepreneurs. A concerted effort and action are needed to ensure that the Stockholm region continues to be an engine for digital development and sustainable development.

Recommendations for the Digital Agenda for Sweden

The purpose of the day was to highlight the special conditions and abilities of the Stockholm region, and based on these, develop a number of concrete recommendations for how business and municipalities can contribute to the government's Digital Agenda for Sweden initiative.

In a report, which you can download to the right of this page, concrete proposals and recommendations are made to IT Minister Anna-Karin Hatt. The report is part of the City of Stockholm's contribution to the Digital Agenda for Sweden. The agenda is being developed by the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation and will be a coherent strategy aimed at making better use of the state's existing resources.
