Peter Kjäll new expert on industrial policy
Can you give us a brief introduction of yourself outside of work?
- I am a techno geek of rank despite having a PhD in medical sciences, but I like to relax in the garden or play music when the time comes. I generally think that the hours of the day are too few for all the exciting and fun both within the profession and outside!
What attracted you to the position as an industrial policy expert focusing on healthtech, welfare technology and the digitalization of the public sector?
- "I have been involved in the Swedish and international innovation system around digital health for many years and have seen both challenges and opportunities from many different perspectives. One of my natural areas of focus is the interface between the private and public sectors. Technology and the digitally transformative is today the biggest possible driver to reshape healthcare, care and the entire health sector and the business sector represents a large and incredibly exciting part of that toolbox. To be able to represent the industry in this context through TechSverige is a great privilege for me.
What do you see as the biggest challenges?
- I see the business community and innovative companies as an incredibly strong resource for the public sector, for healthcare and for welfare in general. However, there are challenges in a domain that is unfortunately not as agile and change-prone as required for us to leverage the power and opportunity of digitization. To realize these gains, a close interaction between business and the public sector is needed, as well as a great need for efforts to promote a healthy market situation characterized by both innovation and new thinking.
