Signatorieship - what does it mean?
Yesterday, some 50 signatories of the government's Digital Agenda gathered for a meeting at the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. Many have sent in their commitments and the Ministry is currently compiling a list. It is undeniably an impressive list of projects that companies and organizations are running, each of which in its own way contributes to developing IT Sweden. There are descriptions of innovative development projects, standardization work, projects for digitization of information, descriptions of action plans - together a snapshot of the development activities that are ongoing in IT in Sweden today.
But what should we do with all this information? Of course, the question came up at the meeting, everyone is on board with the digital agenda, but what is the next step? Will there be a proposal? Is there money for projects, are there concrete tasks to do? There were no answers at the meeting, except that the Digitization Commission will be up and running before the summer and I assume that it will be responsible for taking it further.
Personally, I am convinced that the most important thing is that the ambitions of the digital agenda come down to the operational level, where there are opportunities to start and finance projects. This applies, for example, to individual municipalities initiating work on e-services, broadband expansion, training initiatives or whatever it may be. We heard exciting strategies from SKL, which is trying to drive development among its members.
It is also important that the ambition is similarly spread to all ministries and authorities; Is the Ministry of Justice trying to take some steps to digitize the judicial system? The Ministry of Education and the National Agency for Education have a lot to think about in terms of IT for educational development and for more effective monitoring and evaluation
Don't let the Digital Agenda become a paper tiger - get the agenda out into the business and create arenas for meetings between industry and business in various subject areas, such as schools, housing, energy. The industry is happy to assist with good examples and to increase insight into both opportunities and obstacles.
