A reduction in working hours risks slowing down innovation and competitiveness
A general reduction in working hours risks limiting the scope for innovation, investment, and new jobs in Sweden. This is according to TechSverige’s chief negotiator, Einar Humlin, and chief economist, Christina Ramm-Ericson, in an op-ed in Dagens industri.
As global competition intensifies, Sweden needs to strengthen the conditions for tech companies to develop and grow. Fewer hours spent on tech development also risk slowing down digitalization and value creation through AI in the rest of the economy. The way forward lies in higher productivity, skills development, a good work environment, and flexibility.
