A mobile coverage solution that benefits everyone
On Wednesday, in connection with the PTS market day, an industry agreement on clearer maps for mobile coverage was presented. The result of the cooperation is of course gratifying, but what I am particularly pleased about yesterday's news is that the constructive way in which this was carried out benefits everyone; consumers, operators and the state.
This constructive approach will benefit consumers, who will receive better and clearer mobile coverage information without having to wait for lengthy legislation.
This benefits mobile operators who, through a collaborative dialogue with the authorities, have developed a tailor-made solution to the problem that is adapted to their business. They thus avoid having to adapt to inflexible legislation that risks creating additional work.
It also benefits the government, which achieves what it wants in a smooth and time-efficient way, without having to spend a lot of resources on legislation.
There was a lot of praise on Wednesday for both operators and authorities, and rightly so. I would also like to highlight the important role of the Telecom Advisersas facilitators in this work. Without their input, I am not sure that this industry agreement would have come into place.
We have much to gain from working in similar, more constructive ways on more issues in the future. And as long as solutions can be found that benefit everyone, there is every reason to try!
