Report: Classification and documentation of fiber-based infrastructure
The IT&Telecom companies' report, produced together with representatives of the industry, contains new concrete guidelines for how fiber networks should be documented, with the aim of creating better conditions for all players to build and document future-proof and robust fiber networks.
The guidelines have been produced by IT&Telekomföretagen on behalf of the Broadband Forum steering group, against the background of a working group within the Broadband Forum identifying the need to quality-classify, document and map fiber-based infrastructure. The major infrastructure owners, according to their own statements, have their infrastructure well documented and have good knowledge of its routes and availability, which is a prerequisite for guaranteeing the robustness of the networks. However, the documentation of built networks varies and is often inadequate among smaller operators, especially when it comes to access networks.
The work of developing the guidelines has broad support in the industry: Skanova, Telenor, IP-Only, TDC, Tele2 and SSNf have also participated in the project. The industry hopes that the guidelines will constitute minimum documentation requirements when authorities such as PTS and the Swedish Board of Agriculture grant state subsidies for network investments.
