Pär Fors comments on the situation regarding covid-19
Pär Fors, Chairman of the Board of IT&Telecom companies:
The coronavirus crisis is an extraordinary event with a major impact on society at large, but also on the business sector. Some measures to support companies have already been taken by the Government and both the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and Almega have also expressed their wishes for further measures. I welcome several of the proposals, but more is needed to support our member companies and in times like these, IT&Telecom companies also have an important role to play from several perspectives.
Our companies are of course taking a number of measures on their own to meet the challenges of the crisis, but it is also clear that we will be a stronger voice if we pursue issues jointly in parallel. Here we are working actively to capture these issues from member companies to coordinate and raise requests to the government and relevant authorities. An obvious issue to pursue is that the public sector as a whole sets a good example and does not stop ongoing and planned IT projects and investments in the telecom sector, but on the contrary acts countercyclically to increase investments to maintain demand and thus jobs.
Finally, it is also clear that our member companies have key roles to play in addressing some of the challenges that our society now faces. A few examples of many: As more and more people work from home, a functioning digital infrastructure is needed and solutions for both teleworking and distance learning must be in place. Authorities need help to make informed decisions, and AI can be part of the solution when it comes to analyzing large amounts of data, often with complex relationships. Here we need investments to meet the challenges of the crisis; activity rather than passivity. As an industry, we want to help society get through this tough period, and we know we have an important role to play. So please join the #vitecherupp call and share your good examples!
