Improved connectivity on trains could become a reality
- We welcome the proposals in the report and hope that the government will now take them further," says My Bergdahl, industry policy expert at IT&Telecomföretagen.
In the report, the authority submits proposals for a number of eligible measures to improve the possibilities for mobile connectivity on board trains. PTS also highlights the proposal that the Swedish Transport Administration should be given a clearer mandate in this area, something that the industry organizations Tågföretagen and IT&Telekomföretagen have emphasized in their dialogue with PTS.
- We want to see the government quickly give the Swedish Transport Administration a clarified assignment because it is so central to seriously improving the situation - not least when it comes to tunnels," My Bergdahl continues.
Among the measures that PTS proposes to be eligible for the support money that will be allocated are support for repeaters and Wifi, but tests and tunnels will also be covered.
- "We believe that the measures that will give the best long-term results are tests," says Björn Westerberg, head of the industry at Tågföretagen. "The trials of new so-called leaky windows have produced very positive results, but they need to be tested further. We would therefore like to see some of the money earmarked for testing.
Members of Tågföretagen and IT&Telekomföretagen entered into an agreement last year to work together to help find common solutions. Within the framework of this cooperation, tests have been carried out, but discussions have also been held on various railway lines. The PTS report now provides a good basis for determining which routes should be prioritized, which will be of great benefit in the continued work.
- We have encouraged the authorities to make use of the power and experience available within the framework of our cooperation. We now look forward to being involved in the continued work," My and Björn conclude.
