IT&Telecom companies participate in information meeting on the transition from 2G and 3G
- "We are pleased that PTS is taking this initiative so that various social actors and users can be informed about what the transition means. By getting the information out widely, we hope that we can jointly ensure that the transition takes place as smoothly as possible," says Tommy Ljunggren.
2G and 3G networks are being used less and less for voice and data traffic and, in the long run, there will be no spare parts or skills to ensure that these networks can function. Therefore, a transition to modern networks such as 4G and 5G is underway worldwide. Most phones used in Sweden support voice and data via 4G, but even though not many mobile phones are affected, there are still many customers, including companies, authorities and private individuals who use the networks for more special and sometimes socially or business-critical tasks. Many emergency phones in municipalities, for example, still only support 2G/3G. There are elevator phones, alarms and control equipment that also still depend on 2G/3G. It is therefore very important to communicate the transition as widely as possible to ensure an effective transition, without the risk of disruption to key societal functions and where all users have time to choose new solutions.
- The closure of 2G and 3G networks is something that happens around the world. In Sweden, there is no common closure date, but the various operators have different timetables based on their conditions and considerations. As a user, you should therefore review your own conditions and contact your operator to hear what the plans look like for them," concludes Tommy.
