Josefine Jonsson

Josefine Jonsson new chairman of Telekområdet

Almost 20 years ago, at a university in London, her interest in telecom issues was sparked. Today, Josefine Jonsson is the newly elected chairman of the Telecoms Area.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
- I work as a company lawyer at Tre and am responsible for the legal issues that fall within the Post and Telecom Agency's area of responsibility. I have worked at Tre for just over eleven years and have a background from law firms and PTS, among others. I really enjoy working at Tre and in the telecom industry, as the work is exciting, eventful and varied and sometimes even challenging.

How did you become interested in telecom issues?
-
My interest was sparked when, in 2003/2004, I had the opportunity to study a Master of Laws program at London University and chose the IT and Telecommunications option. This included a course on the five EU directives that form the basis of the Electronic Communications Act. At the time, telecoms and digitization seemed like important areas for the future, as they are services that everyone needs and uses more and more, and I wanted to learn more about them. Since then, I have been working on IT and telecom issues - because my hunch turned out to be right!

Why have you become involved in the telecoms sector?
- Telekområdet focuses on issues such as digital infrastructure and telecom regulation. I participate in Telekområdet because it is a great forum for collaboration and cooperation between member companies in TechSverige. The Council is an arena for dialog and discussion internally and with external parties, and we work to identify current and future issues that are important for the development of the market. The aim is to promote good conditions for the telecom industry's companies and positive development for digital infrastructure and services. It is a great strength that, with the industry's common views as a basis, through the Telecom area we can influence politicians and experts and promote the industry's issues in the debate.

What issues do you think will be in focus in 2022?
- Continued expansion of fiber and mobile networks and not least the question of how we best use 5G and promote rapid deployment and use. And of course - getting telecom topics on politicians' agendas will be particularly important in 2022, which is an election year. During the corona pandemic, the telecom industry has recognized the importance of infrastructure and services for Swedish society - a basic industry that has functioned very well despite increased usage - and this needs to be reflected in policy. Long-term predictability and favourable conditions for the expansion of fibre and mobile networks are important for digitization, to promote Sweden's economy and competitiveness, but also contribute to, for example, increased sustainability in society.

- In 2022, the Communications Code will also become Swedish law, through a completely new Electronic Communications Act. This will entail changes to rules on end-user protection and security, among other things. This is something that the telecommunications sector will be discussing and providing information about," says Josefine Jonsson:

- As usual, there are many exciting things happening at the same time in our industry!
