New report: Tea employers consolidate their role as one of the most attractive employers

The tech industry continues to stand out as one of the most attractive employers in Swedish working life. Nyckeltalsinstitutets new survey shows that the industry, despite a rapidly changing environment and uncertain economic situation, is strengthening its position as a secure and sought-after employer, with good working conditions that create a stable foundation for future skills supply.

The sector is particularly notable for its secure employment conditions, healthy workforce and high investment in skills development - with tech employers investing almost 50% more time in employee development than other sectors.

This year's report clearly shows that the tech industry is not only maintaining a high level but also continues to strengthen its attractiveness.

- This year's report clearly shows that the tech industry not only maintains a high level but also continues to strengthen its attractiveness. Absenteeism due to sickness is decreasing, there are fewer departures and investments in skills development are among the highest in Swedish working life. This indicates a long-term sustainable work environment and a strong ability to retain and develop employees," says Tina Ekström, CEO of Nyckeltalsinstitutet.

Results of the mapping exercise:

  • Job security: More than 98% of tech workers have permanent jobs.
  • More skills development: Tech companies spend an average of almost 9 days per year per employee on skills development - almost 50% more than the rest of the workforce.
  • New employees are staying: attrition among new employees has fallen from 20% to 12% in one year, a clear sign of better induction and retention.
  • Healthy workplaces: Sickness absence is low, both in the short and long term, indicating a sustainable working environment.
  • Leadership close to employees: Tech managers are on average responsible for fewer than nine people, which contributes to a good working environment and day-to-day support.

Despite the strong performance, there is still room for improvement. The supply of skills is a key issue. In 2024, just over 10% left their employers, while 7% were recruited, and over 11,000 positions were vacant. This shows that there is fierce competition for top talent, and tech companies must remain at the forefront.

Gender equality is also an area for further development. The share of women in the industry is increasing, but it is slow and there is an uneven gender balance in many professional roles. At the same time, there is a clear positive trend that more and more companies have gender-balanced management teams. This shows a clear move towards greater gender equality in responsibilities and decision-making.

- Securing excellence is crucial for the development of the industry and Swedish competitiveness. To succeed, we need to broaden the recruitment base - and gender equality is an important part of this. It's about both attracting more women to the industry and focusing on the different professional roles that exist in the tech industry," says Siri Åhlmans, expert at TechSverige.
