New report: IT and energy efficiency in Sweden
On Wednesday, IT&Telekomföretagen, together with the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation, organized the seminar "IT for a greener society" at Rosenbad in Stockholm.
The seminar was well attended and the list of speakers included the new IT Minister Anna-Karin Hatt, Collette Maloney, responsible for the area at the European Commission, and Stockholm's Environment Mayor Per Ankersjö. From the private sector, representatives from Ericsson, Fortum, Svenska Bostäder and Sweco spoke. There was a strong consensus among the participants on the potential of IT to create a sustainable society. But there was also agreement that there are a number of obstacles on the way. One of these is the lack of standards, but also the fact that there is often no incentive for the end user and consumer to actually change and act in a new way. Furthermore, as new and more innovative solutions emerge, legislation also needs to keep up with developments.
