Hello startup: Christian Engene, Scopes
Under the banner Hej startup, TechSverige highlights young and new member companies and their businesses. First out is Scopes and their sustainability manager co-founder Christian Engene who tells us that Scopes was started less than two years ago based on a clear insight.
- When we understood the scope of the then upcoming CSRD(Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), it became clear to us that SMEs risk being left without the necessary tools and resources. The challenge is huge - many lack the time, skills and capacity to meet the new requirements. We are a team with backgrounds in sustainability, tech and business, and wanted to build something that makes a real difference - a platform that makes sustainability work easier, faster and more accessible to everyone," says Christian Engene.

How do you see your own role as Sustainability Manager at Scopes?
- My main task is to ensure that our platform delivers accurate and reliable results. At the same time, I put a lot of emphasis on making the complexity of sustainability issues easier to understand. As our platform is fully digital and does not include consultants, pedagogy is crucial. The aim is to enable more small and medium-sized enterprises to get started with their sustainability work.
The better you are at sustainability, the more attractive you will be as a business partner."
What has been your experience working with an AI-driven solution?
- Our team has extensive experience building systems with AI, both with traditional machine learning and language models. Our platform is an agent system with AI integrated into every step of the workflow. It allows companies to conduct advanced analytics internally without having to hire external consultants. Sustainability work requires understanding complex relationships between operations and value chains - and that's where technology is crucial.
How do you see the development opportunities for Scopes?
- The need for sustainability tools for small businesses is growing rapidly, both in Sweden and Europe. We see great potential for growth, but our most important goal is to make it easier to get started with sustainability work. If we succeed in helping thousands of companies take the first step, we will make a real difference. In the long run, sustainability also becomes a competitive advantage - the better you are at sustainability, the more attractive you become as a business partner.
What do you see as the benefits of membership of TechSverige?
- We see TechSverige as an important platform for collaboration and influence. Being part of the industry's development, contributing to sustainability work and at the same time exchanging experiences with other tech companies is incredibly valuable to us. It strengthens both our development and our voice in the larger transition.
