Next Up: Now we've kicked off in earnest...

Next Up, our competition where eighth graders in the Stockholm area will solve cases at a number of our companies, has taken another step towards its launch in January. On Monday, December 2, we held a speed dating, where our partner companies got to meet the DataTjej students who will lead the student teams (see picture), and a kickoff for everyone involved in the project (companies, DataTjejer, teachers and other partners).

The evening ended with the drawing of lots for the five cases among the schools that will take part in the competition (eight so far, we expect ten). In brief, the five tasks for which students will have to come up with solutions are as follows (in brackets: the companies responsible for the case):

  1. How to counter social media bullying (Sogeti)
  2. How can security be ensured in a future giant public event? (Ericsson)
  3. How can computers and humans work together in the future to create better school meals? (IBM)
  4. The intergenerational social computer game (King)
  5. How do we turn social media engagement into real change? (SVT)

A document describing the cases and the competition in general has been produced. Are you curious? Please contact me at fredrik.vonessen@almega.se.

The official launch of the project will take place on January 15, when we will also present an upgraded version of the Next Up website, opens in new window. The following week, classes will start working on solving the cases.

The final day is April 3, when the student teams get to present their solutions in the newly built NOD building in Kista, opens in new window.
