Film: IT&Telecom companies present Digital Challenge

IT&Telecom companies are now launching a think tank with a mission to seriously address the issues, opportunities and challenges posed by digitalization. The think tank, which will be called "Digital Utmaning", will work independently of the association, be politically independent and involve a larger number of experts, debaters and opinion leaders. The work will be led by a steering group chaired by Lars Ilshammar.

- Digitization is fundamentally changing our society to at least the same extent as steam power once did. Digitization is not an IT issue, but one that affects most areas of society. But is this shaping the political debate? Are we as a society preparing for the consequences of digitalization? We don't think so, which is why we are taking this initiative," says Anne-Marie Fransson, Director of IT&Telecom.

- Despite the fact that we already live in a digital society, digitization has generally been seen as a short-term quick fix to various acute societal problems, while the long-term and often unpredictable and complex effects have been left out of the debate. There is therefore a great need for a think tank that is able to look further and dare to recognize both the opportunities and problems that digitization brings in different areas of society, says Lars Ilshammar.

The work of the Think Tank will take the form of a structured process with a series of working meetings, known as 'Councils', each led by a person called an Advisor. The ambition is to hold three workshops, on three different themes, per year.

The first consultation will address an issue that is currently hotly debated - the impact of digitalization on the labour market.

- Physical goods are becoming digital services, digital platforms are cutting out intermediaries, and automation and robotics are making traditional industry more efficient. Of course, all this affects the labor market. No one knows exactly how, but one thing is clear: it will not continue to look like it does today. Therefore, this is an area that is extremely important for the new think tank to address," says Chairman Lars Ilshammar.
