IT&Telecom companies at the forefront of digital receipts
Upcoming meeting with the Minister of Digitalization
For several years, IT&Telecom companies have been pushing for retailers to switch to digital receipts. According to the Cash Register Act, anyone selling a product or service must always offer the customer a receipt. Initially, the Swedish Tax Agency considered that the receipt should be in paper format. But after pressure from IT&Telekomföretagen and others, the agency changed its mind and since 2012 digital receipts are also valid.
There are many reasons to switch to digital receipts. They are easier to store than physical receipts, they are more environmentally friendly and they make it faster to process expense reports. In addition to these drivers, recalls, for example, can be handled more easily with traceability.
It is therefore gratifying that the government has now recognized that the transition to digital receipts is an important sub-project in the major work that includes, for example, electronic invoices in public procurement.
IT&Telecom companies will participate in a roundtable discussion with the Minister of Digitization on 18 December together with stakeholders from the trade, receipt operators and standardization organizations. The aim is to agree on an action plan to stimulate the transition to digital receipts.
