Susann Hjort, Public Sector Nordics Leader, Amazon Web Services

Why have you taken this initiative?

As a global company, we are closely monitoring the impact of COVID-19. Beyond those directly affected by the disease, there are many more who need to deal with the indirect challenges that work, education and society now face. We believe our experience and services can help a wide range of organizations, from governments and businesses to schools and non-profit organizations, in these challenges.

As a cloud service provider in Sweden, we can help by offering technology and services that facilitate remote working for employees as well as distance learning for students. We can also help organizations set up new contact centres, and run websites and applications on our platform to help disseminate information quickly and securely.

In addition, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is helping to support research and diagnostics through the launch of a new Diagnostic Development Initiative. We are making an initial investment of $20 million for customers working on diagnostic solutions through this initiative. AWS is also supporting Hack the Crisis, whose mission is to find new solutions to help fight COVID-19.

What do you want to achieve?

We recognize that many people are dealing with difficult challenges in work, school and community environments. We are taking action to support our customers, communities and employees to help them adapt and cope, and you will see us continue to do more.

Who are you targeting with your initiative?

AWS is available to everyone, and can be used by startups, enterprises, government and non-profit organizations in any industry. Some services include special offers to make it easier for customers to get started at no cost, through projects like our Diagnostic Development Initiative; others are already available through our AWS Free Tier. For the public sector, we can also rapidly assemble and scale tools and infrastructure through AWS credits and technical support to help cover costs and keep operations running, also through projects like our Diagnostic Development Initiative. For more information: Teleworking and training.

What do you offer in concrete terms?

We have solutions that facilitate teleworking and training, for example:

- Amazon WorkSpaces for Windows and Linux virtual desktops that can be accessed from anywhere and from any device. These desktops can be used for remote work, remote training, and more.
- Amazon WorkDocs that simplifies collaboration with other people, from anywhere and with any device.
- Amazon Chime for online meetings with up to 250 participants, including chats and video calls from the same application.
- Amazon Connect to create contact centers in the cloud, with the ability to connect incoming calls and messages to tens of thousands of employees. Customers can use this to share crisis information or personalized customer service, while employees work from home.
