Data Council: Industry position on outsourcing of IT services for the public sector
The issue of public cloud computing in the public sector is important for much of the industry. The legal conditions that apply, not least when procuring cloud services from third countries (outside the EU), have been unclear for some time. This has led to extensive problems in the public market for cloud services, which is almost completely locked. To address the situation, the government has initiated a government inquiry. The Swedish Data Protection Authority has been working on the issue since 2018. As part of helping the inquiry to better understand the industry and technology, we have developed an industry position that describes our common view of outsourcing IT services for the public sector. The position is anchored in participating companies in the Data Council and adopted by the IT & Telecom Companies' Board on March 27, 2020.
