Time to prepare Sweden for the transition from 2G and 3G

Digitization is a central part of societal development, enabling accessible and modern welfare, competitive industry and sustainable development. To take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitization, modern and secure communication networks are required, including through the expansion of mobile networks based on 4G, 5G and other wireless technologies such as Wifi, LoRaWAN, Sigfox and BLE. To make room for the new technologies, we need to phase out older technologies such as 2G and 3G networks in a responsible manner.

2G and 3G are currently used throughout Sweden for everything from telephony and broadband to connecting critical functions and various industrial applications (often called IoT or m2m). To ensure an effective transition, without the risk of disruption to important societal functions and where all users receive a new solution, good forward planning and broad collaboration are required

The telecom area within TechSverige has produced a document to provide an overall picture of the industry's current view of the transition from 2G and 3G to new modern communication solutions in Sweden. By informing municipalities, regions, authorities, companies and consumers at an early stage, we hope to contribute to a development where we can jointly use the transition to drive responsible digitization.
