CGI most equal in the IT and telecom industry

Every year, Nyckeltalsinstitutet presents the employers with the best working conditions in the country in terms of attractiveness, gender equality and health. CGI Sweden has been awarded the Excellent Employer 2021 certificate as the most equal company in the IT and telecom industry.

- "For many years, CGI has worked actively to break down our metrics and policies into concrete activities that help us drive diversity and inclusion in our daily work. This approach permeates all our processes around talent management and business development," says Veronica Wiren, Head of HR at CGI in Scandinavia.

The Gender Equality Index, JÄMIX, shows how gender equality looks in organizations based on nine areas: occupational groups, management team, equal managerial career, salary, long-term sick leave, parental leave, employment rate, permanent employment and active work.

- It is important for us to create opportunities for different career paths, where everyone, no matter who they are, can drive their own agenda and have their voice heard. We see this as a key factor in attracting and retaining our staff. Our management teams reflect the society we live in with a gender balance and we work actively to highlight role models and spread good examples that show the strength of our differences. Of course, we have zero tolerance for victimization," says Veronica Wiren.

How can the IT and telecom industry in general improve on these issues?

- The industry needs to continue with the work of highlighting role models for young women and actively participate in and support various networks and activities that affirm diversity and promote dissent. Developing partnerships with colleges and universities is important, but we also need to create interest in the IT industry even further down in age. This is being done today with some success, but we need to broaden our horizons and find ways to inspire children who do not naturally come into contact with the IT industry. We have a great social responsibility to listen to, and make use of, all perspectives and all the skills that are out there.
