Telia - Data-driven solutions for sustainable societies
Data-based mapping of CO2 emissions from passenger transport
The Travel Emission Insights service enables municipalities and regions to map carbon emissions from passenger transport. This makes it easier to decide on specific measures that can help reduce emissions. The service provides municipalities with insights into how many people travel, by what type of vehicle, on what routes and what emissions these trips generate and is based on anonymized and aggregated mobile network data.

Better agriculture with 5G
By connecting things in agriculture with 5G and analyzing data using AI, we can use the planet's resources more efficiently and thus reduce negative environmental impacts.
Telia and Ekobot have tested 5G connectivity of an autonomous robot for weed control, which can lead to both efficiency and environmental benefits, for example by reducing the need for pesticides.

Smarter urban planning with real data
Analyzing large amounts of anonymous user data from mobile networks creates new opportunities for smart urban planning based on actual movement patterns. Connected trash cans, mailboxes and parking lots make cities work more efficiently and reduce the need for heavy vehicles, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Much of this data analysis can be done through Telia Company's City Vitality Insights service.

Connected taps save water and reduce risk of bacteria
Connecting water taps with sensors can help save water in public spaces. The sensors tell you if a tap is leaking or if there is a leak in an entire water system. They can also provide real-time data on water temperature and consumption. In addition to water being one of the most important resources we have, you also save money. It is also possible to set an automatic regular flush to prevent bacteria from growing in the tap. This way, the spread of diseases can be avoided.

Energy-efficient buildings
Using smart sensors, Telia enables significant energy savings in buildings through system automation and remote control of lighting and temperature. Thanks to this modern technological infrastructure, we will have more sustainable cities, with energy savings that in turn reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The solutions can also help create behavioral changes through an immediate feedback on the use of electrical devices, etc. In addition, they also create a better and more predictable indoor environment with an improved quality of life for residents and workers in the buildings.

Smart public transport
Anonymized mobile network data can be used to analyse how people move around so that public transport can better adapt its bus services, create new solutions to meet passengers' needs and reduce unnecessary driving. If you also connect the buses, you can start each bus in an environmentally friendly way and create greater security for drivers and passengers.

More Digital - Digitala senior citizens
More than one million people in Sweden today lack the knowledge, skills and technology to take part in the digital world. That's why Telia offers "Mer Digital" - a basic IT training to solve the digital exclusion. We want everyone to be connected and inspired by the possibilities of digital life. With "More Digital" we support municipalities to train their senior citizens.

Green bonds
Telia Company was the first Nordic telecom company to issue a EUR 500 million green hybrid bond in 2020. More green hybrid bonds have since been issued. The proceeds will be used...
Reduction of own carbon emissions
To vigorously address climate change and the unsustainable use of natural resources, Telia Company has adopted ambitious environmental targets to be reached by 2030.
We are committed to becoming carbon neutral throughout our value chain and creating no waste. We are already well on our way in our own operations, where we have been using 100% renewable electricity in Sweden since 2007, and have replaced much of our travel with digital meetings. All new company cars are electric or hybrid. Our largest office is BREEAM certified (Excellent level) and energy consumption was reduced by 90% when we moved there.

Report outlines what is needed to meet climate targets
An international group of experts, including Telia Company, has published a report with 36 solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide by 50 percent in ten years. "The Exponential Roadmap was released ahead of the UN Climate Summit in New York City in September 2019. In January 2020, the next part, The 1.5°C Business Playbook for climate action, was launched, providing a framework for all types of businesses on how to work to reduce their climate emissions.

Internet creates access to information and learning
Telecommunications and the internet offer unprecedented opportunities for freedom of expression, access to information and learning. But it also brings risks and negative impacts, such as cyber-attacks and the dissemination of inappropriate material, in the worst cases depicting child sexual abuse. These risks must be managed proactively with full transparency. Telia actively works on the basis of a freedom of expression policy and, for example, advises parents on how to help their children protect themselves online.
